Maiden's Blush - 2017

Moretz - medium sized green with beautiful blush when exposed to sun. Slightly tart and is the best for early season drying. Makes sauces butters and even pies. DOB 1817 New Jersey, definitely a heritage variety.

DW- super tart! At least this one was. Thick skin.

CW - it's a little chewy. And it tastes like sour grass.

Summer Banana

Moretz - A good flavored sweet apple firm and excellent for fresh eating or no sugar added cooked apples or pies. Antique variety that is very hard to find and our supplies are limited.

DW - very very floral, light and sweet, aftertaste of crispy veggies like green beans. Tastes like a nice pear.

CW - the crisp crunch was good. The end.

Ray's Early

Moretz - Will not win awards for size or eye appeal. On the sweet side with mild flavor. Makes good no added sugar apple sauce or may be used to stretch out fruit recipes. DW - Mild and fruit loopy sweet.  Nice and easy.

Tolman Sweet

Moretz - Another old timey apple with good flavor. Great choice for no added sugar apple butter. Excellent to naturally sweeten smoothies. Good thick cooker that is naturally sweet. Nice out of hand eating apple as well. DW - Deliciously mild and flowery. Simple and crisp.

Summer Treat

Moretz - Slightly tart and good flavor make this a good choice for cooked apples. One of the early ones suited to make apple butter as well. Or a tart eater. DW - yum. Tart and good.

CW - little tart. Not that great.

Williams Pride

Moretz - A disease resistant variety that is among the first for dual usage. Good cooking apple and nice slightly tart eating apple. Obtaining a good color can be challenging in some seasons.

DW - I wish I could give this to my friend right now, it's a very good apple.

CW - crispness and juiciness is good. It's a little too tart for me

Earliblaze

Moretz - not as tart or as transparent as a Lodi (about like a macintosh) thick cooker too. Makes wonderful cooked apples. Decent for fresh eating. DW - zing! Yep tart. Little bit of mac flavor. Adorable looking, some of the other have blush.

CW - little tart. Crisp. Pretty good

Fuji

Moretz - The 1st apple to challenge Red Delicious and it wins "hands down going away." Sweet and crisp and keeps very well. Excellent choice for no sugar added apple sauce. From Japan DOB 1962. Red delicious and Ralls Janet are the parents.

DW - Super watery, fresh and mildly sweet, crisp and pleasant. Something tastes a little bit like the beach.

CW - pretty skin. Flavor familiar but very mild and kinda blah

Baldwin

Moretz - An important apple in the 1900s. A good keeper multi use variety. Slightly tart with good juiciness and firm flesh. Can be a very nice looking apple with the right weather. A chance seedling from MA. DOB 1740

DW - nice! Very much like a Mac, but a little bit more honey flavor, and more watery. Really nice, slightly tart skin.

CW - Crunchy watery. Teeny tiny bit of tart with no flavor behind it.

Gold Rush

Moretz - One of the newer disease resistant varieties. This one has a hint of golden flavor but stays firm. It is an excellent keeper and a dual use variety.

DW - Weird. A little bit citrus, especially the skin. Tart and granny smithy, with a funky Pork kinda taste. Yeah.

CW - EW. Extra firm and there is a VERY WEIRD flavor at the start but it goes away quickly then is just kinda appley. Would not eat again on purpose

Grimes Golden

Moretz - Parent of Golden Delicious. Picked when 1st falling and sent by riverboat to New Orleans where they arrived with a beautiful gold color and slightly tart wonderful flavor. DOB 1790 West Virginia.

DW - Ughhh. Funny little bruise spots outside and inside, soft and ehhhh. Tart, a little sour, and not very pleasant.

CW - skin is gross. Apple is ok, kinda creamy. Some fruity flavor I can't quite pin down

Snow / Fameuse

Moretz - At one time thought to be a parent of Macintosh. It has a mild Mac flavor but really shines as a sauce. It's Snow White flesh does not darken when cooked. Ontario 1800's

DW - Very soft. Lightly tart and flavorful, pleasant and floral. My cold is not helping me taste it.

CW -

Granny Smith

Moretz - Dark green color and a very tart apple that holds its shape fairly well has this one as a pie favorite as well as an eater for the lemon crowd.

DW - Yum! Bills Granny Smith is gooood. Obviously tart but not overly tart and very flavorful. Nice dark green color unlike grocery store pale grannies. Really liked it.

CW -

Cripps Pink

Moretz - A very late variety that is sweet-tart with firm flesh. Limited supplies.

DW - Wow. Sugary candy flavor I'm used to with pink ladies, but again like with the Granny Smith, bills version is just so much better and balanced. Crisp, tart, super sweet.

CW -

Cameo

Moretz - One of the newer varieties that has won many fans. Fairly crunchy with just the right sweetness. Flavor is slightly reminiscent of a well flavored red delicious.

DW - Yum. Had one in the store once, Moretz's is of course better. Very sweet, got a funny shrimp cocktail vibe to it.

CW - Really watery, a touch of sweetness. Tastes like an apple, very appley."

York Imperial

Moretz - Also known as Johnstons Finest Winter. Since the 1820's this apple has been a favorite. Considering that no two apples are shaped the same and it is not a sweet eating apple, this one has stood the test of time.

DW - Grape soda. Tastes just like a Nugrape or those summer plastic bottle drinks.

CW - yes! Squeezy pops! But like mild and watery. Cause it's not chemicals.

Idared Jonathan

Moretz - Slightly tart with a juicy crunch and lots of flavor. Usually a good looking apple as well. This is another multi purpose variety. Originated in Idaho DOB 1942

DW - Pretty pink color on the flesh, a little bland and earthy, fresh and slightly tart and crisp!

CW - Pretty watery. And watery. In flavor and texture.

MLW - MmMmmmmmNnnMmm

Rome Beauty

Moretz - We offer the original (which was a rare root sport) and the red sports that were developed later. Many do enjoy eating it fresh. Ohio 1817

DW - Crisp, freshy fresh, tiniest bit tart, good! Juicy and nice.

CW - crisp and nice to chew, very pleasant apple. Doesn't taste like much, supple.

MLW - MmMmmMmmmNnnMmm

Original Delicious

Moretz - this Apple has flavor to spare and a nice flesh. It does brown moderately fast. Worth trying just to see what was bred out of delicious.

DW - super crisp. Feels like it can't decide to be a Gala or a boring red delicious, but not bad, weirdly tart. Like it's at the intersection of a lot of flavors.

CW - mm! Bright and appley. Not too sweet but sweet, probably good with cheddar or something salty. Would eat again.

Stayman / Winesap

Moretz - A sport of Winesap that has flavor snap and juiciness. Somewhat tart. This area favorite stores fairly well but is usually eaten or cooked quickly because no one wants even one to go bad. Originated in Kansas 1866

DW - Soft, slightly thick skin. Greener flesh, a bit tart, in the range of Mac like flavors, and a little dry and acidic.

CW - Mm I like that one. Soft and watery. Don't really like the skin but everything else is nice on whatever this is
